New Kid in Town

Just down the road from the University of Southern Indiana sits the only Japanese restaurant on the city’s West Side, awaiting patrons ready to savor its wide-ranging cuisine.

Located at the former site of Crazy Buffet II, Osaka Japanese Hibachi and Sushi opened on Aug. 4 as the West Side’s newest restaurant, offering a wide variety of hibachi-style cuisine, a sushi bar, and unique specialty dishes such as the Takoyaki — fried octopus balls that are a popular fast food in Japan.

If that doesn’t satisfy your appetite, Osaka also serves 39 specialty and classic sushi rolls, including the popular Osaka Roll (tempura shrimp, crab meat, and cucumber inside and topped with spicy tuna, eel sauce, spicy mayo, and crunchies) or the Snow Angel Roll (tempura shrimp, cream cheese, and cucumber inside topped with spicy crab, eel sauce, spicy mayo, and crunchies).

“We opened about two weeks ago, and we’ve been pleased with all the customers who have come out to support us and eat some great food,” says owner Winda Schroeder.

Open for lunch and dinner Tuesday through Sunday, stop by Osaka for sushi or choose from an assortment of hibachi dishes, noodles, and fried rice at its location at 5435 Pearl Drive. Dine-in are carry-out service is available.
